| Why The Focus On "The Everton Way"? Most of the field demonstrations for the 2008 Soccer Expo focus on the techniques taught by the Everton Way, the official training regiment of the Everton FC Youth Academy Program. Illinois Youth Soccer is excited to have Tosh Farrell and other staff coaches from Everton at the Expo leading these sessions. But why has Illinois Youth Soccer decided to focus on the Everton Way? In late 2007 Illinois Youth Soccer and Everton FC reached an innovative training agreement in which each Illinois Olympic Development Pool Player would receive a subscription to the Everton Way and the ODP training session would focus on the techniques taught by the Everton Youth Academy which has developed English Premiere League players such as Wayne Rooney, Richard Dunne, Leon Osman, Victor Anichebe and James Vaughn. According to Illinois Youth Soccer Director of Coaching, Ian Mulliner, “In my experience, no other professional soccer organization has created a youth development tool that comes close to The Everton Way. Using their vast history and experience, the Everton Academy has designed an online player development tool that will help to not only bring consistency to our training sessions but will also enable coaches, players and parents to be on the same page when it comes to working on individual techniques and small group training.” While the techniques are being utilized by ODP, coaches and players not associated with ODP are encouraged to come watch these field demonstrations as these techniques are valuable for beginning to advanced level players. One of the advantages of the Illinois Youth Soccer / Everton Partnership is that The Everton Way has been made available to players and coaches outside of the Olympic Development Program and offers clubs, teams and players a chance to follow the ODP training sessions to better prepare them for participation in the program in the future. If you are not familiar with The Everton Way, you can take a free tour by clicking the Everton Way logo on the ODP home page. This link will also take you to the registration page in which you can purchase a subscription. After visiting the website, be sure to come out to the 2008 Illinois Youth Soccer Soccer & Chicago FireFest to see these techniques in person. |
